Do you feel your electric bill is too high?

While Efficiency Vermont can't control your usage, we can help you investigate. This section can help you figure out why your bill is high and and how you can reduce your energy use.

Investigate your usage.

Here's how: Gather your electric bills from the past two years and start comparing your usage. Don't have your bills? Call your electric utility to request past electric bills. Typically, you'll find one of four things:

  1. Your usage is seasonally high. Consistent increases during certain months indicate higher use of heating, cooling or other seasonally-linked equipment.
  2. Your usage is consistently high. Your next step is to determine if this is normal for your kind of business. Check out the links, explained above, in this section. If you don't find a likely culprit, it's time to evaluate the efficiency of your equipment. We can help you determine if there's more energy-efficient equipment you can use, and we'll see if there are any financial incentives for upgrades. We're a call away: 1-888-921-5990, toll-free.
  3. Your usage is slowly creeping up. You could have a slowly degrading piece of equipment.
  4. Your usage spiked. Spikes can be an indication of a problem with a piece of equipment.
